Please attend our 2018/19 Annual General Meeting

We need your support

The official notice of the Club 2018/19 Annual General Meeting (AGM) was posted a little while ago, along with a nomination form for the 2019/20 Committee.

Filling all the Committee roles is essential to run Little Athletics and Senior Athletics for the coming season. Most of the committee roles only take a few hours a week and can fit in around your family and work commitments. You can nominate for a role via the form which needs to be in by 26 April 2019.

All members are welcome to attend the meeting and we hope to see you there.

We’re back!

Welcome back to our last weeks of competition!

Changes to end of season schedule

In response to feedback about heat, the number of events for athletes over the two days of the ‘championships weekend’ and clashes with other sports, we have made important changes to the championship weeks. The schedule until the end of the season is now as follows:

  • 8/2/19 – normal week 3 program
  • 15/2/19 – Week 1 championship program
  • 22/2/19 – Week 2 championship program
  • 8/3/19 – Week 3 championship program
  • 5/4/19 – Presentation night, Barden Park 6pm

22/3/19 is a back up Friday night for championships if needed.

There is no competition on 1 March because Barden Park is in use for the State Multi Event.

The championships nights programs are the same they have been this season.

Happy New Year

Welcome to 2019!

We hope its all you want it to be and that the second half of the season goes really well. Some updates are below and these will cover things off until we start again.

Program for rest of 2018/19 Season

There are a lot of great events at Barden Park next year, so we have some program changes, including a later start back after Christmas. All of the info is in the end of season calendar. This also has details about the 2018-19 championships which is very different to previous years.

Regional Carnival

Info about the Regional Carnival is available from the Western Plains Zone Facebook Page. Most information is also on the Zone and Region Page.

New Year Carnival

Good luck to everyone competing in the New Year Carnival. There are nearly 250 entries and it should be fantastic. Well done in advance to Mick Gardiner at Little Athletics NSW/Athletics NSW for making it all happen! Updates are on the web and Facebook.

See you all soon!

Shoosh for Kids and Codes of Behaviour

If you can’t say anything nice…

This week the Dubbo Athletics Club is joining the state-wide Shoosh for Kids campaign, run by the NSW Office of Sport and supported by state sporting organisations. Its a fantastic thing to be a part of, and the campaign:

  • Aligns with the culture of the Club
  • Is consistent with our Codes of Conduct and Behaviour
  • Is an excellent reminder about having fun and keeping things positive in all things associated with athletics

The messages from Shoosh for Kids are relevant all season long, and its good to get then out out early in the season. One of the key things is that if you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say anything at all. Its a message worth remembering.

It’s also worth remembering some of the words from our Code of Conduct:

Australians are justifiably proud of the place sport has in their daily lives.

But what is equally important to us all is the way the “game” is played and the manner in which our sportsmen and sportswomen conduct themselves.

Unfortunately, some people (both participants and spectators) fail to live up to the traditional values of sport. Young people involved in sport have a right to participate in a safe and supportive environment. Overzealous parents and adults, and ill‐tempered, disrespectful athletes, sometimes need to be reminded of appropriate standards of behaviour for Little Athletics.

It would be great to not have Codes of Conduct and Shoosh for Kids, but the reality is that sometimes we need them. There’s no excuse for our athletes, parents, carers, coaches and volunteers to not experience a fun, safe and positive sporting culture, and our Codes of Conduct, and things like Shoosh for Kids help us achieve this.

So this week, we ask everyone involved in the Club to take another look over our Codes of Conduct, participate in Shoosh for Kids and help us make Dubbo Athletics a fun, safe and positive place to be.

Regular Season

Thanks for all the athlete, parent and carer support over the first three weeks of competition, plus the two trial weeks. There are always things to improve, but overall its been going well.

We have filled all our age manager spots – thanks so much to all of the parents and carers who have agreed to help out. Little Athletics only runs with parent involvement and its fantastic that people have taken this on. Being an Age Manager isn’t a big job, but it is one of the most important. We will be working with age managers on roles and responsibilities in the coming weeks. A guide for age managers is available from Little Athletics.

The weekly Little Athletics program will be updated each week on the weekly programs page. A PDF of the three week program is also available on the same page. There have been some changes the to the program, and it is always subject to change on the night. Please remember that the program is designed so that the groupings listed in the program run in an integrated way and you should only turn up to track events when you are called.

All athletes must have their numbers, and badges on display at all times and full uniforms are required. We are still waiting on Coles badges, so don’t worry if you are missing that.

Uniforms and registration numbers/badges which have not yet been picked up will be available on Friday at 5:30 from the top of the grandstand.

Nominations for the Zone Carnival are now open and completed forms must be returned to our Registrar, Amy Searle by 9 November 2018. Zone high jump has qualifying heights so make sure that your child can clear the qualifying height before nominating.

We will be starting with a warmup this week at 6pm sharp so please be there 10 mins before.

Lastly, its still not too late to register. Please remind friends or family who might be interested.

We will be reviewing the program at the end of week 3, and it is always subject to change on the night.

All athletes must have their numbers, age badge and Coles badge on display at all times and full uniforms are required from this week. We are waiting on Coles badges so don’t worry if you are missing that.

We’ve had a great response to the age manager nominations. Thanks to all those that have said they can help out. We still need age managers for Tiny Tots, U6 girls, U10 girls, U11 girls, U14 girls, U15 girls and U17 girls.

Nominations for the Zone Carnival are now open and completed forms must be returned to our Registrar, Amy Searle by 9 November 2018.

Week 2 Info

Thanks for your support for the first week of competition. Not a perfect run through of the program, but a great start!

The week 2 Little Athletics program has been uploaded on the weekly programs page. A PDF of the three week program is also available on the weekly programs page.

All walks are in week 2 and start before the main program. There will be basic walks coaching at 5:15pm followed by the walk events.

We will be reviewing the program at the end of week 3, and it is always subject to change on the night.

All athletes to have their numbers, age badge and Coles badge on display at all times. Full uniforms are required from week 3 – so you have one more week to be in full uniform.

Uniforms and registration numbers/badges which have not yet been picked up will be available on Friday night from the top of the grandstand.

All groups will need to have an age manager by the start of week 3, and a backup in case the age manager is unavailable. We ask that parents and carers talk about this at the Friday competition night and provide your age manager nominations when folders are returned on Friday night.

Nominations for the Zone Carnival are now open and completed forms must be returned to our Registrar, Amy Searle by 9 November 2018.

Lastly, its not too late to register. Please remind friends or family who might be interested.
